«Trends in Europe remain unchanged. We see that Europe has set a course towards demonstrating military strength, and that is exactly what is happening. At present, there are no signs indicating an escalation of the situation. However, nothing has changed: the military units stationed along the western and southern borders are still in place,» Mr. Volfovich said.

Nevertheless, the State Secretary of the Security Council highlighted that Belarus’ neighbouring countries recognise there is no real threat coming from Belarusian territory. Minsk does not pose a threat to anyone and is not concentrating any forces near its borders. «Regarding the military issues, we are conducting routine operations. Combat training is actively ongoing during this training period, with several exercises taking place — the Defence Minister has informed [the President] about this,» he explained.

«Of course, the units and forces assigned to protect our southern borders are carrying out their duties. These include special operations forces positioned behind the border guards, which, in our view, cover the most dangerous directions where provocations could happen. Everything is proceeding as planned,» Mr. Volfovich added.

Summarising the analysis of the situation at the borders, the State Secretary of the Security Council emphasised that Belarus remains vigilant and maintains control over the situation, «Intelligence agencies work daily to monitor and analyse the situation. Air defence combat duty is staffed with reinforced personnel. We have not withdrawn these forces and resources; we also protect the most critical facilities, in our view, that could impact our country’s economy and the peaceful lives of our citizens.»
