«New requirements for banks in terms of combating cyber fraud have been in place for two months now. I would like to remind you that each bank must have a so-called anti-fraud system tailored to our requirements. They also collect client geolocation data. We are already seeing the results: the number of incidents has dropped significantly,» Andrei Kartun said. In January through August 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, the number of incidents decreased by 2,300, and the amount of damage decreased by Br6.7 million.

Over the eight months of 2026, 10,000 unauthorized payment transactions and attempts were recorded. The damage to citizens and business entities in Belarus amounted to Br27.8 million, of which 92.9% was stolen using social engineering methods. The stolen funds were mainly channeled to recipients in foreign banks or via cryptocurrency. With the help of installed anti-fraud systems and information from the automated incident processing system, Belarusian banks managed to prevent the theft of funds totaling Br5.3 million, which is 2.1 times more than in January through August 2025.

The National Bank continuously monitors the automated incident processing system and, in the event of negative trends, promptly takes targeted measures together with the banking community to prevent the theft of funds. For example, during the last ten days of August 2026, there was a sharp surge in fraudsters withdrawing funds via cryptocurrency. The National Bank, together with the Hi-Tech Park Secretariat and banks, developed a number of measures, including the introduction of additional limits and fine-tuning of anti-fraud systems, which helped to halt this negative trend by the end of August. As a result of these measures, from 28 to 31 August, banks suspended the withdrawal of funds into cryptocurrency totaling Br133,000.
