«I would say that the issue is not so much nuclear weapons themselves and their proliferation, although the ‘nuclear club’ has increased over the past few decades. Nuclear weapons are not a solution to the problems on the battlefield, and therefore, the arms race seems likely to continue in this direction,» Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
The expert pointed out that leading countries will promote space as an important area. As an example, he cited the United States and the Golden Dome missile defense system, the need for which was announced by US President Donald Trump. He stated that this system will include, among other things, orbital detection systems.
«The arms race today involves the centers of power, not small countries. It is they who will compete in certain areas,» the expert believes.
Nevertheless, Aleksandr Tishchenko noted that countries like Belarus will need to take into account the specifics of the arms race in order to determine the direction of their security system. «Who you choose as friends and build a security bloc with will matter. In this regard, our intuition and history have not failed us so far. History tells us that Russia is the only country with which we can survive, protect ourselves and ensure our security,» he summarized.
