A Belarusian delegation is on an official visit to Algeria. A number of high-level meetings have been held. The main goal is to consolidate the growth in mutual trade and turn agreements reached by the heads of state into effective joint projects.

The visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Algeria in December 2025 gave a powerful impetus to bilateral relations. The current visit by the Belarusian delegation is aimed at developing the agreements reached at that time. The parties discussed a wide range of issues.

«Trade and economic cooperation is developing dynamically. The growth rate in H1 2026 was significant. Agricultural goods and food products account for the bulk of trade, but this is only the beginning. And we see that there is still room for growth in this area, for example, with a view to creating joint production of baby food in the future. Much attention is being paid to agricultural machinery, and the supply of passenger vehicles, trucks, and mining equipment: areas where Belarus has world-class expertise. The parties consider a comprehensive approach: from supplying machinery, training personnel, and creating spare parts warehouses to eventually setting up assembly plants in Algeria with a certain degree of localization,» Viktor Karankevich said.

Cooperation in light industry is also relevant. «We have a lot to share with our friends from Algeria, including the production of fabrics, leather raw materials, and finished goods, including specialized goods that could be in demand in this market,» Viktor Karankevich noted.

Another promising area is pharmaceuticals and the supply of medicines. «Extensive work is currently underway to certify deliveries of new medicines both to our market and to the Algerian market, with a view to possible localization at existing facilities in both countries,» Viktor Karankevich added.

The visit also covers education, youth cooperation, and cultural exchange.

«We come here as friends with our technologies, which we are ready to share. We are ready to set up joint ventures and implement joint projects aimed at improving the level and quality of life of citizens and creating conditions for further sustainable growth,» Viktor Karankevich concluded.
