Chinese corporation CAMCE has expressed interest in participating in the construction of a municipal solid waste (MSW) thermal treatment plant in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services.

A working meeting chaired by Housing and Utilities Minister Gennady Trubilo was held with representatives of China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE).

The talks focused on the construction of MSW thermal treatment plant in Belarus. The parties discussed possible models for the company’s participation in the project, including investment mechanisms and supplies of equipment.

CAMCE has become the second Chinese investor to express interest in the project. Belarus is becoming an attractive place for the introduction of advanced waste management technologies. Growing competition for the project increases the chances of selecting the best proposal for the country, the ministry noted.

«The interest shown by a company with a strong reputation and the backing of the Chinese government demonstrates that we are moving in the right way. Competition at this stage is the best guarantee of a high-quality and beneficial outcome for the country,» Gennady Trubilo said.

The parties agreed to exchange technical information and continue consultations.

Another Chinese company, Shanghai SUS Environment, has also expressed interest in building the MSW thermal treatment plant. During a meeting at the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services on 3 August, the sides discussed possible ways for the company’s participation in the project.
