Competing in the 110kg weight category, Yahor Savich opened the tournament with a defeat to Bruno Pallone of the USA. He then advanced through the repechage by defeating opponents from Japan and Armenia before losing the bronze-medal bout to Serbia’s Andrej Simic. Earlier, Yahor Savich won bronze at the U17 European Wrestling Championships.
In the 55kg category, Tsimafei Semianenka defeated wrestlers from the Czech Republic, Armenia and India on his way to the semifinals, where he lost to Hungary’s Keve Kovacs. In the bronze-medal match, Tsimafei Semianenka was beaten by Romania’s Vlad Trip. Belarus is represented by 25 young wrestlers in Baku. The U17 World Championships will run through 2 August.
