Belarus and Russia plan to expand their joint satellite constellation, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Karanik told journalists before the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences, BelTA reports.

According to Vladimir Karanik, two main areas of work are planned under the Union State framework. One of them is space exploration. «Here we have very good groundwork and a high level of cooperation with Roscosmos structures. We plan to further expand our joint satellite constellation. By 2027-2028, we hope to launch four more spacecraft,» said Vladimir Karanik.

The second area is the Union-Biomembranes program. The chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus called it unique and promising. «This biotechnological initiative benefits healthcare and economy. I believe it will also be a landmark step forward in developing new drug formulations and treatment methods for high-burden diseases,» noted Vladimir Karanik.

Approximately 400 representatives of academic, university, and industrial science, as well as young scientists from Belarus, are taking part in the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The attendees are reviewing the results of the past year’s scientific work and setting goals for the National Academy of Sciences and the country’s entire scientific sector for 2026.
