Belarus and Laos have agreed to waive visas for national passport holders, enhancing bilateral relations.

Belarus and Laos have agreed to abolish visas for holders of national passports. The corresponding intergovernmental agreement was signed during the visit of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov to Laos, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

On the first day of the visit, Maksim Ryzhenkov held talks with Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane. The signing of the visa waiver agreement for holders of national passports was the main event of the meeting.

«This step will open new prospects for the development of bilateral relations across various areas: from business partnerships and civil society cooperation to tourism and humanitarian initiatives,» the ministry stated.

During the meeting, the ministers praised momentum in Belarus-Laos relations, which is based on strong historical ties dating back to the Soviet era.

Despite the geographic distance, the parties expressed commitment to deepening the partnership based on mutual respect and friendship. An agreement was reached to restart the activities of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation after Laos’s administrative reform is completed, and to hold the fourth session of the commission in the near future.
