Al Arabiya journalist reveals what caught her off guard in interview with Lukashenko

The most unexpected and interesting statements made by the Belarusian leader during his interview with Al Arabiya concerned nuclear disarmament and the possibility of ending the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, Melinda Nucifora, an international news anchor and correspondent for Al Arabiya, told the media following her interview with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 12 June, BelTA has learned.

She emphasized that the audience of the channel values the perspective of every global leader, and that Al Arabiya, unlike many other media outlets, strives to present a wide range of viewpoints.

«If a channel broadcasts only the opinions of certain leaders, the audience gets a very one-sided view of the world. Our channel is not like that. We want to present diverse points of view from different corners of the globe, so that our viewers can make their own decisions and form their own opinions based on what they hear. That is why we particularly value the opportunity to speak with the Belarusian president,» said Melinda Nucifora.

According to her, during the conversation with the head of state, various topics were discussed. But the most important and interesting, in her opinion, were the answers to questions about the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, and the Belarusian president’s views on when and how they might be resolved. Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that a resolution is certainly possible, but it lies not in the military realm at all — exclusively through dialogue. «The importance of dialogue was emphasized repeatedly, which aligns with the channel’s position that dialogue must come above all else,» said the Al Arabiya journalist.

Speaking about the most unexpected information heard during the interview with the Belarusian leader, she noted that it concerned nuclear disarmament. «This is an unexpected perspective that is very interesting to hear. The president was very straightforward. I think global audiences will also find it interesting and important,» Melinda Nucifora emphasized.

She said that she considers the interview with the Belarusian president to be very significant from a professional standpoint. The conversation was long and substantial, so the plan is to broadcast it in its entirety, as they say, uncut, in several languages on the channel, reaching an audience of approximately 400 million people. «This interview will have enormous influence and significance,» the journalist said.

As BelTA has reported, the head of state’s interview with Al Arabiya lasted about an hour and a half. Aleksandr Lukashenko answered around two dozen questions, which touched upon, among other things, the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, the search for solutions to existing contradictions, and the prospects for a peaceful settlement.

The president shared his views on the global changes currently underway in the world, spoke about contacts with the United States and European Union countries, and commented on the militarization of several European nations.

The interview also addressed the development of cooperation with Saudi Arabia and other states in the Middle East.

Al Arabiya is an international Arabic-language news channel. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the channel broadcasts around the clock in Arabic (with a separate Persian-language version for Iranian audiences) and is available in more than 150 countries via satellite, cable, and digital platforms.

Through its online platforms, websites, and social media networks, Al Arabiya reaches a substantial audience across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. The channel’s website publishes news in four languages: Arabic, English, Urdu, and Persian.
